Thanks for the reply ahull. I always check my oil when the car has been sitting for hours and is on level surfaces. Car still runs great- no rough idling, no blue or black smoke from the exhaust etc....

I was told by a BMW tech that a leaky valve cover gasket, especially if the oil leaks on the exhaust camshaft position sensor, can cause misfire and start up problems.

The steering in my '02 325i is tight and responsive at 110,000 miles. Its an automatic so i can't answer about shifting gears.
