A 94 525i is a lot easier to work on than a 97 740. Way more room in the engine bay, and a much simpier engine, compared to the V8 on the 740.
But, for $500, how can you go wrong?

Usually when a coil(s) goes bad, you'll get a code.

Do you have any codes?

You'd need to get your 7 up on jacks (all 4 wheels, and be sure it's level). Open the upper fill plug to check for tranny fluid.

If it's better, there's a very good chance it's the MAF.
