I would think pressure could tell you if the system is clogged (High pressure on the high side and low pressure on the low side). The pressures should pretty much pinpoint the problem with your AC...

Unplugging the subwoofer cable might be bad for the amp. Many amps have problems and damage the amp when the output impedance goes from low (2 ohms) to infinite. Not sure about the BMW's amp though.
