I run Mobil 1 syn 5W-30 during the cold half of the year and 15W-50 in the warmer half ('96 328is) and it has been fine for me (for the past 10 years I've owned the car).

If you disconnect the MAF and still have problems, its not the MAF causing your problems.
If you disconnect it and your problems go away, then you have a faulty MAF....
