Although possible, you might also want to do an odometer check and see if 1 mile actually equals one mile. Even at 490 miles with 18 gallons of fuel is 27 average mpg. With 16 gallons, still only 30.

Not much coolant above the exhaust manifold other than the head which should be more obvious. It doesn't have to leak on exhaust to steam.

You should be fine. If you don't have vacuum to the turbo, it fails in the open position and just won't spool... Meaning you won't get boost and won't have as much power.
