As long as you keep an eye on the actual oil level via the dipstick, there is no harm in living with a bad oil level sensor. I just found it irritating to have the oil light on.

It's the little retaining tabs that tend to break. I had one threatening to fall out a couple of years ago and just hot-glued it in place. Problem solved at minimal cost! :)
