N62 was first introduced on E53 in 09/2003. So post 09/2003 you are fine, although 24-points test (or whatever it is called there)...

I have a solution that works and costs less than $10. It's more of a "hack", but it works for me. There is no other way (besides heating it) to make it work without having to redesign the CCV.

Poor ground maybe. Unplug the plastic socket from the light and bend the two metal clips upwards to get a better contact. Also check if the metal on the taillight itself insn't oxydized.

I wouldn't worry about the replaced engine. Changing engines is everyday work for a lot of people and the M62 a quite easy to service and maintain.

Draining water through a 3-4mm pipe is not realistic and it doesn't work. There is a solution depending where the exact problem is in your car.
