Not sure what the stop test might say, but I believe bad crank shaft senor would turn off fuel pump. This would be more likely than a "dead spot" in fuel pump motor

I'll second the guibo and wouldn't worry about the the fan being stuck causing any over heat as you can run all day at highway speeds with no fan. Only in heavy stop and go would you see the needle...

And of course the parts are 22 year old plastic. So I took apart the unit to get to the button mechanism...
