If you have the ability to do them yourself, I'd say go for it! As stated, you'd have spare parts in case you need them! BMW parts ain't cheap and this sounds like a great deal!

I did a simple but effective way. I removed the latch and finger picked downwards the locking mechanism to open. Don't get frustrated, it's a simple task.

It's definitely the tiny hole you discovered in one of the hoses. I had that problem with my Rover. Temperature fluctuates up and down. Replace it asap before it gets worse!
