The thermostat is probably getting stuck on open periodically. Mines been doing it a lot with the latest heat wave. Replace for 50 bucks or so. Easy fix

Keifer just did this project and replaced his valve seals few weeks ago. His pics are online. And no need to pull the head.

Pulling of the head would be required to replace the valve stems.
