This shouldn't be a surprise. BMW was never a nonprofit. That said, they are at the mercy of highly competitive market forces, so any sense of sudden greed on their part is mistaken.

Why on earth would I spend $40k plus tax on a car that'll be worth $25k or less in 3 years? The amortized monthly cost, not counting repair risk, is as much as a new car.

40k is about right if you're picking up a fully clean, CPO car that a dealer had to inventory, invest in fixing up, pay flooring costs on, and had to assume some measure of business risk for.

To me, "no haggle" is simply a way of drawing in customers who can't/won't haggle. There's always room for negotiation on a car deal, unless of course it's truly a bottom line deal.
