To diagnose, open your hood, activate the washer while standing on the driver's side (otherwise you could get some washer fluid in the eye) and watch the fluid spew out of that location.

Mine just did the same thing. 2012 535 M Sport x-drive. No rhyme or reason to it, just happened. Going in for service in about 6 weeks. Will live with it until then.

I just had the unpleasant experience of having my windshield broken by a flying rock. I saw it coming, saw it hit and saw the 10 inch crack appear before my eyes, right in my line of sight.
