Well, the perfect choice would be a new F30 328d, but I'm guessing that's probably a little pricey for you given the cars you're looking at. They're a bit larger than the E9x, definitely bigger back...

Yeah, even the 328d has enough grunt. FYI, they're not too bad on the highway - I got up to 95 (from 55 or so) and passed a truck and some sluggards pretty easily in my wife's.

Probably because the 10W doesn't meet the LL-01 cold temp viscosity spec, which is limited to 0W-5W, not 10W. (It's not quite that simple, but that's the effect of BMW's specification.)

I don't know how many miles, or what you pay per gallon, but my 335d has already saved me around $4,000 in the 82K miles I've driven it. And currently, diesel is $0.25 cheaper than premium up here...
