Sounds like the problem I had, but mine was the fuel pump. If you didn't get a check engine light, it most likely will be the pump. I'm not aware of an e46 having 2 pumps. Maybe some more season vets...

Good question! I have had my radar for 3 to 4 years and have never had that problem. The best feature for me is the red light camera warning.
