Power Drain

I had a dead battery this morning. Battery is okay. Alternator was tested bad by Autozone. Would it be okay to leave alternator out and hookup battery to see if power drain exists?

Fuel Sending Unit

I'm not getting the correct reading on the Fuel gauge. I took the sending units out and fixed the syphon pump. When I put it back together (twice now) the gauge stops at 1/2 full (on the way down)....
