I'm not implying that steptronic is faster than a manual in any way, but when you are on a corner, braking, steering, clutching and downshifting I don't think you can make that big of a difference....

Personally, I wouldn't feel comfortable knowing that the rims on my beemer are inspired from an audi :O If you do get them, you should stay with the 18'' tough. IMO BBS is the way to go.
