I've done my front struts enough times that I could probably do it blindfolded. My impact is the key component. Holding the shaft with a vise grips doesn't do any damage if you hold it near the top...

If the porcelain broke off, the steel hex should still be there, it should be one piece with the threaded part. Get it loose and use a magnet or "mechanics fingers" to retrieve it.

You will need an M50 torx bit to get those 2 bolts out, mine were in pretty tight (rusty). Tried to get some PB Blaster on them, nearly impossible, and then very carefully used an impact wrench.
