I have never seen what one looks like but could have a collapsed hose also. If the head is intact, shouldn't take too much work to get this sorted as most is good maintenance anyway.

You do not have all of the air out if you do not have heat. Elevate the front of the car a bit helps but no heat means there is no hot coolant in the core. Could be other issues but start simple.

Evans Waterless Coolant and you don't have to worry about corrosion. Plus it has super high boil rate so your head will thank you if you pump fails. Little work to convert but worth it.

When was the last time you change any of the linkage parts, bushings etc. Fluid? Stuff wears out and what may seam like a little think get magnified when you think of the leverage.

Fill it back up if you haven't already. Idle the car and turn the heater on full. Don't forget to turn the dial on the dash to heat. If the temp gauge goes past the middle shut it down immediately....
