Yea, that's why I really would like the TMS shorty headers. Supposedly they're a lot better for the low/mid range and help the top end just a tad.

I can vouch for the conti dw's as well. Haven't had them on my car, but have driven plenty of cars with them. Comfortable, quiet and grippy. They just give away some steering response off-center...
