I didn't need to make any modifications. Most screens (at least mine is) are adjustable so you can tell them how far to park away from the dash and you can adjust the tilt of the screen.

I have a Kenwood with the flip up screen. It does block some air, but I just aim the center vents up and close them down a bit to force more air out the side vents, so it isn't really an issue.
