I don't know the details, but the AC cutting out under hard acceleration is normal. So I wouldn't worry about the warm air during sprited drives.

Don't know about messing with the signal, but there have been issues with the metal caps and the metal stems reacting with each other and then the caps won't come off.

The valve in the stem holds the air in. The cap keeps dirt from getting into the valve. Your dealer may be willing to give you one, or you can pick up a set at an auto parts store.
