Yes, ride is better on bumpy roads. No difference in ride quality on smooth roads as it feels the same as 19's. 18's are taking pot holes well. I had them for 1 year now and no bent wheel.

I switched to 18's with Miro 942 and Yoko Avid Envigors for the same reason (pot holes). Handling is not the same but it is decent.

I drove a 2013 528i. Power is not bad. It has good low end torque. It is luxurious but drives a lot bigger than e60. It was not equipped with DHP so it is not a good comparison.

My car bucks in D mode if I drive in stop and go traffic. If I drive hard for few days the problem goes away.

I have changed 2 oil level sensors in 2 years. The master mechanic at BMW dealership told me that he has seen quite a few 550 with bad sensors.

I had few problems with my car but after they were fixed it is holding up pretty well. The service manager at dealer told me that e60 is a reliable car.
