I just took a peek at RealOEM and did not see anything different -- there is a door lining for ~$29 and that was in place between 2006 and a 2008 model. If there's something I'm missing let me know!...

You can definitely use sound-proofing material (like Dynamat) to get rid of the sound -- I completely agree with you, the 'thud' of the door closing in the Z4 sound cheap. I plan on lining the door...

Sure. You'll just find that you'll leave a connector for the dimming feature unplugged. That's all....If you have a rearview mirror that auto dims, it will still continue to work.
