This is more likely due to a broken wire under the seat. It seems to be a lot more common on coupes since there is a lot of movement with the seat being able to lift up and forward.

I bet the LEDs were intentionally broken off so that they didn't show a problem when they sold the car. A standard code scanner may not show codes that aren't related to ODBC.

My guess would be a loose heat shield somewhere. I've been having a similar noise but hear it when going into reverse and over bumps. I just haven't had the time to get under the car and look.
