Yes you can buy them from a BMW dealer. The left and right have different part numbers, so you should be able to buy just the one you need. Check RealOEM.

Agreed. But the problem is BMW will not supply any parts for diffs, only complete units. So if you needed to replace the back plate gasket when refitting for example, you might be in difficulties...
