No. You need to remove the oil pressure switch, and connect a pressure gauge. The max oil pressure is 65 psi.

AFAIK, there is a temp sensor in the lower RIGHT hose. It provides an input to the DME to control the aux fan, nothing more.

If the Bendix drive, which engages the pinion, gets gummed up, it can cause this symptom. Remove starter and hose down the drive with brake cleaner. Bench test before installing.

Verify that the amp compartment is not obstructed.

The amps in early E39s suffered from a lack of a cooling hole in the bottom of the bracket. Also worth checking that the fan is working.

The wheel width should be no less than 90% of the tire cross-section.

Measure the exhaust back pressure via the pre-cat sensor bung. S/b less than 1-2 psi.
