It's always a bit of a model-release leapfrog game. The 2012 X5 will most likely raise the technology bar even higher.

btw: they don't so much 'cheapen' a model but rather try to hit marketing...

The Cayenne is certainly nice, and perhaps more reliable, but imho BMW does a better job of balancing performance and fuel efficiency in the SAV market...... for the moment. ;)

Seat comfort is of course a very subjective 'seat of the beholder' item. I prefer bolsters that hold me centered in the seat (sport seats), so for me that is greater comfort.

No, bigger wheel size is not necessarily better, especially in winter driving where you want a tall tire sidewall (profile). Bigger wheels do tend to look better however as they better fill the wheel...
