I checked both o2 sensors, with disconnecting one by one.
Only when the upper one is connected, the mpg gauge will act strange.
With the other one, there are no problems

Problem solved :). Disconnected the o2 sensors, and the problem went away.
I have two precat o2 sensors, only one of them affects the mpg gauge, and looks like it needs replacement.
