Have you tried it with an older iPhone or iPod? Don't forget that the iPod interface is at least 6 year old technology. In technology terms 6 years is a very long time.
The issue may be down to this...

I would recommend an Eisenmann exhaust though. I just fitted one to my e36 and it sounds mean! Mine is only the "sport" version of the exhaust, a friend has fitted the "race" version to his e60 M5...

The Oil gauge is at 1 litre when it's full, you should not let it go below zero. It will show as bars in the iDrive menu.

A word of warning, the system will not recognise a top up of less than 0.5...
