Unfortunately, the fan is mounted on the back side of the fan clutch, so you can't get the fan out of the way until you separate the clutch from the water pump.

Agreed. But, just because the radiator shouldn't be blocked doesn't mean it couldn't be blocked. I know that the typical failure mode for these radiators is a cracking plastic part, not a build-up...
