I found further info on turner Motorsport's that my old m3 is ews-2 and the new m3 is ews-1 I'm assuming that it's probably much harder to get this to work then it's worth.

This is the centering spring you can see the cylinder in between the springs two ends this pushes the shifter back to neutral unlike the sloppy oem one especially if you have worn detents...

Yeah 5th in both is a 1:1 and 6 is .82 if I can remember correctly so it's a 5 speed with over drive.
