PDC has three small black connectors. The white module is EHC - ride height control on the wagon. Mating connector appears to be white also, though with the camera flash it's hard to tell.

There's an electrical switch on the latch on the liftgate that decides if the latch is open or closed. So I'd think whether you close it by hand or automatically, if it latches securely, it knows....

If you were able to swap modules between cars without reprogramming, you can probably just get a new one and plug it in. Not sure though. I only have the one BMW. :)
