On bobistheoilguy.com I read that even when synthetic oil is prescribed for your car, the EPA considers that "cheating", and makes them run dino juice for the tests. That could easily change the tax...

Not software, it's the springs which control the valves that control the shifting. You disassemble the valve body and replace a dozen or so little bits. Commonly done on American cars.

Has anyone used an aftermarket shift kit in their GM A/T E36?

I personally like a sharper shift, and I understand it makes the clutches last longer, since they slip less on each shift.

Hood alarm switch

The hood switch often "fails" and owners unplug it.
Hook it back up, press it down to different depths and try to activate the alarm.
You'll probably find that the hood no longer presses the switch...

Drain Plug Near Battery

While replacing the battery, it's a good time to poke small holes in the 3 rubber drain plugs in the area.

BMW chooses to undercoat and paint over these, so I didn't want to remove them to drain...

Good used and tested SAI pumps for Z3 and E36 -- $120.

If your pump has water in it, the SAI valve has gone bad and stuck partly open, so replace both. Double check that you have vacuum going to the SAI valve on cold start, and that you can feel exhaust...

Hood button

this is the infamous hood button giving up the ghost. It's located on
the radiator header on the driver's side.

Get a new one, disconnect it, or screw a rubber bumper onto the pad on the hood...

Do NOT use a splitter, the switch is called ...

....an"A - B switch", which isolates the two input signals from
each other. The are very cheap for ordinary co-ax cable, but
you probably have special cable that will need a special switch.
