Opticoat helps but it doesn't prevent swirl marks. You can still get swirls with opticoat on.

That said my F10 is space grey and its one of my favorite colors from BMW. Very easy to maintain...

I would agree with your assessment about the springs being more for comfort than handling. They make the car look better and ride quality stays about the same. Handling is only improved marginally...
