Consider turning your car in at Stuttgart on Fri or Sat (if they permit it) and taking alt transpo to Paris. Your car might arrive home a week or more earlier (or a few days).

It is hard to believe. The solution seems simple: the alternator should always be on when the battery charge level is < x.

My guess is that x should be between 85-95%,...
