I don't know much about BMW automatics, but on our Accord, the trottle position sensor is on the throttle body, and if the TPS is out of adjustment or malfunctioning it can cause shifting problems...

My vote is: keep the tint light. My car came with pretty light tint, and on rainy nights it still makes it hard to see out of the side window when turning. Also, really dark tint looks more trashy...
