It has been a long time since I did this but..

I believe the blue wire from harness connects to a blue/white wire on the radio.
Or in your case it may be blue to blue

No vanos on 4 cylinder engines. Have you located the sound by using a tube or piece of hose and listening to the engine in various places?

Have you tiried tightening the cables on the e-brake?

From your description, that may be your problem, too much slack in the cables. Pull up the e-brake boot and you should see the nuts for adjustment

Bilstein Touring shocks are less stiff

Throttle body

Get the codes read, but I had the same issue on my 2000 way back in warranty, and it was a cured by replacing a defective throttle body part # 13-54-1-433-414 ( I have a 2000 2.3)
