Well, if you don't let off the gas in S6, you will stress out the clutch and the noise/smell are simply symptomatic of the stress you are placing on the drivetrain (particularly the clutch).

realOEM does not show the 2007 X3's battery requiring registration by the dealer. RealOEM shows this caution in the battery section for the e9X's.

I can tell you that I replaced the OEM battery...
