Unless something has recently changed, Mobil1 ESP LL04 does NOT come in 10W30. It is available in 5W30 and possibly 0W30.

Parts counter guy is not the best source of info. This oil has the same specs as the last: LL01 or LL04.
Shell gave BMW a better deal than Castrol did. Just a business decision.

Another 0W40 with BMW LL01 is Castrol Edge. Available at Walmarts in the US. Not sure about Canada.

Simply put, -40 is "thicker" than a -30, so will theoretically provide more protection.
A 0W40 would be a good choice in Canada for year round use. The 0W means it is relatively "thin" at cold temps...

There are a number of 5W40 oils sold here in the US that meet the appropriate BMW oil spec for your vehicle (BMW LL01). I believe Mobil1 0W40 meets this spec too.
