Was this a BMW shop?

Sounds like air in the heater core. Have you done some recent cooling system work?

Did you use the BMW bleeding procedure? The V8 is easy to bleed, once you use the correct procedure.

If you bought the FSU someplace other than at the dealer, it has likely failed. Feedback from this forum indicates that many aftermarket FSUs are not well made, and tend to fail often.

My 540iT had a 4/99 build date and orginally came with the cassette and had the round pin harness. I was lucky and found one of the round pin CD43 for e39/e53 units that was a simple plug-in-play....

Replace the FSU first. Blower motor with a mind of its own is a symptom of a failed FSU. It may also fix the lights.

Get out your DMM and make some voltage measurements. A fully charged battery setting overnight should read 12.6V. With the engine running at 1500 RPM, the voltage s/b 14+.
