In all honesty, the bill looks about right for the jobs that were done. The difference was the leak on upper timing cover gasket. From your post, it seemed that shop neglected to tell you about this....

Man....I have never seen a "plastic-looking" t-stat before! Maybe it's different for 730d. When all things are in doubt...just go with OEM part.
