It is pointed the wrong way. Its not going to break anything if you get a longer hose, but why? Send it back. On the OEM radiator that part is replaceable/removable, although its tricky to remove.

Its a bad sensor or a broken wire. Easy to replace. Common to fall out of its clip and drag on the ground until it breaks. Located fwd of right wheel and behind bumper. See it from the ground.

The transmission on my '98 528 had to be rebuilt a few years ago at about 160K. One of the first things the tech asked me was if I had recently changed the fluid. I had, about 5000 miles earlier....

Can you put a socket on the crank pulley and see if it will turn? Seems odd to me that it would seize if it was running ok when you shut it off. And if its not seized, then I see no correlation...
