Could be air on one side that compresses while the other does not, leading to a bit more...

Well you have a VANOS. The one in that video is a Non-VANOS so the video you posted would be lifter tick. VANOS tick sounds like lifter tick but the fix is much much different. We'd have to clarify...

Truly the first time I've ever heard of dousing a spark with fuel. What's the maximum amount of fuel that can be injected? I doubt any amount of fuel in a sealed cylinder...

I've actually heard this too. It used to be that when battery cases were made of hard rubber the acidity and charge of the battery would be drained through a porous floor such as cement or concrete....
