Low Coolant!!

Thanks to everyone for your replies. My son dug into his owner's manual and identified the alert sign as "Low Coolant". Of course, that begs the question about possible leaks, etc. With about 95K...

a vague description; any ideas?

Sorry for the sketchy info.; my son's '08 X3 (94K miles) has displayed a strange "alert light". Now here comes the sketchy part: the light came on momentarily in the tach cluster. The image appears...

'08 x3

Our '08 X3 now has 90K miles. While we really like the car, especially the way it drives/handles, I have to concede that it has been high maintenance so far...can't count the number of leaking seals,...

Erratic ignition engagement

In re. our '08 X3 (w/90K miles), sometimes I need to turn the key on and off 2-3 times before the ignition system kicks off. When it doesn't "engage", nothing happens...no click, nothing.

The...

BMW gaskets...a supplier problem?

I was gratified to read this "why do BMW gaskets fail" thread. At least I now know that our
'08 X3 is not a lemon. So far we've had the OFHG replaced twice, the Rt. Rear Diff Output seal replaced,...

a Daily Driver X3

'09 X3 w/80K miles and no issues. Scanning the replies to this thread suggests that many X3s are "occasional use only" vehicles. Interesting.

A-piller clarification

Sorry...I wasn't clear.

The trim pieces are on the exterior of the A-piller, not on the inside of the car.

A piller trim pieces

My son's '09 X3 has some trim pieces on the A-pillers...one on each side of the windshield. These trim pieces are about 20 inches long, body colored, and appear to perform some functional role in re....

TPM vs. TPMS

After careful reading of the '08 X3's owner's manual, I realize it has a TPM system, not the more sopihisticated TPMS. The former measures pressure variance between the tires and the latter measures...

a TPMS question, please

I'm getting a TPMS warning sign indicator on my '08 X3. But when I check the tires with a pressure gauge, they are all at 31-32 psi. Is there a re-set function for the warning sign?

just my opinion

Not to sound facetious, but the issue appears to be that the tech. is unable to find the leak. That coolant loss is not due to evaporation, guys.

I recommend you escalate the issue to the Svc Mgr....

Schedule I and II...what's typical mileage?

I'm still getting familiar with my son's recently purchased '08 X3 (66K miles), and I happen to be a bit of a skeptic about relying on the Service Interval Display for performing maintenance.

Thanks!

My thanks to rdc8118 in Ontario for the DIY link. I followed it exactly and saved myself about $300 over dealer estimated costs. I also picked up the Harbor Freight trim tools for $8-9, which made...

Replacing a cup holder-DIY?

I have a replacement cup holder (front-passenger side; '08 X3 ), and hope to remove the old broken one and install the new one myself.

Are there any "tricks" to this DIY project? The unit has two...

An Update

My son has solved his BlueTooth problem, more or less.

He recently acquired an iPhone 5 (he loves the latest cell "gadgets"). He can now connect his iPhone (a) to the car's mike/speaker system...

Love these oil threads!

No car mntce. issue is debated with greater frequency or fervor than oil changes. Full Disclosure: I'm a daily visitor to a Porsche forum...things can get pretty ugly there.

Bottom Line:
