A torch is your best friend for this job, hands down. I took off the whole trailing arm and did it on a bench and with my 12 ton press. Still was a PIA.

You don't have to drop the tank. I changed mine when I installed a new differential. It may be tight with the diff in, but you should be able to get to it. 2 new clamps would be a good idea too.
