You cannot remove it, without adding an electric fan on the engine side -this will require custom work - wiring, shroud fabrication, testing, etc. keep the mechanical fan

Ha - I paid $4800 for mine - in Jan of 2012 - black on black - plus side - enough Dinan bits to have a badge, downside was high miles 197k. Now 211k. Thinking to do a manual swap next

Yes, but not on a e39, unless someone installed a conversion. Is that what you have? Factory studs are generally pressed in. BMW sends cars out with wheel bolts. Conversions almost always screw...

Not sure where you are, but a high mileage e39 540i is a DIY intensive car. You need time, money, DIY skills, and read a lot about the car and issues. This is not a high mileage Toyota.

+1 dealer item - by the time you are done messing with this, the $200 he wants will look like a deal. Factor it in to your overall price. I had to with my 750.

If it is the watercooled Alternator in a 2001 M62TU, it is not the old style of Alternator. There are some threads on rebuilding them on Bimmerforums, and a couple of sellers on ebay for the diodes...

No Dinan MAF in that car in the pic. I have cai, MAF, and TB on my 540iT. It is all labeled. My guess is CAI, and engine tune.
