I am not sure about the i8 becoming unwanted anytime soon, if ever.

Most of the articles I've read have quoted BMW officials as stating the total intended volume of i8s will be in the few thousand...

The Display Key has been put off until further notice. The key will be the same as the i3 key, standard BMW key fob with slightly different shape and blue BMWi accent around the roundel.

I was going to mention that, but thought it was obvious. Spirited driving in the canyons with the mpg of a regular car doing highway cruising is pretty impressive. I bet the i8 will do a solid 50mpg...

Btw that wasn't an owner, it was a journalist and it's a BMW owned car. They were doing lots of press drives in LA recently.
