That is true for the e30, not the e36. All e36 front control arms are steel. You can use e30 M3 control arms on any e36 as an upgrade, though.

Be careful replacing the hood. I have yet to remove or put on the hood without cracking the windshield. With the bolts removed, the hood wants to slide in to the corner of the windshield and crack it.
