I don't understand the water cooled alternator. It uses coolant which is around 225F to 'cool' the alternator. Air cooled alternators are using 75F ambient air to cool their alternators.

Wouldn't a quart of ATF mixed into the oil for a 10 min idle clean the insides of engine pretty well? Of course, one would do this right before an oil change.

Pentosin ATF 1 = ZF Lifeguard 5

BMW ATF 4 = the above (most likely) = or possible Esso LT (doubt it, its been superseded by the above)

All of which are safe to use.

Like anything else, if you maintain it well, it will last. Yes, the M62 is a great engine IMO.
