Good point. Note that the M50 (525i) calls for a heavier oil than you may expect - 20W-50 in summer temps. Some forum-searching will show you that 5W-30 or 10W-30 can often result in ticking lifters.

Just because there is oil flow at the oil sender hole does NOT mean that it is at the correct pressure... a 1/4" column of oil shooting out can look like a geyser even if it's only at 5 psi!
